Home Automation then and now...

We love home automation!  We always have. Remember Radio Shack's X10 modules?  We had those back in the 1990s and used them at Christmas to turn on the lights in the windows, our Christmas tree lights, as well as other assorted items that I can't think of at the moment.

Fast forward from the 1990s to Prime Day 2017 when we innocently purchased an Amazon smart speaker to see what it was all about.  It's now two years later and we have fully embraced Alexa and all she does! Since that first innocent purchase on Prime Day 2017 we now have 18 assorted Alexa devices (click here for our Alexa devices blog post). You would think we own an 18 room house with that many devices, rest assured, we do not!  Not that there's anything wrong with that.  Different devices in different parts of our house.   We have added many other smart devices.  I believe the last time Mark checked we have 63 wifi-enabled devices and the number just keeps going up.  Needless to say, Alexa is very busy doing our bidding daily, many times a day! If zombies ever overrun us and The Walking Dead becomes our world, we will be lost!  Just kidding...Maybe.

With all of that going on we have a fair amount of experience on automating our home (inside and out) and the products we have purchased.  Some products we love, some were not so great and we had to replace them!  Nothing was purchased without plenty of research by Mark. He's an Electrical Engineer and needs lots of data before he makes a purchase!  Lots and lots of data!  I will be the first to say, I am not always the most patient about all his information gathering!  Sometimes I just want to click the "buy now" button and not wait for all his data accumulation.  It's usually worth the wait in the end!

We will be reviewing many of these products and letting you know how we use them and what we like and don't like about them.

I'm working on a blog post on how we automated our game room.  You can look forward to a blog post, or several, on the entire home automation project that will be written by both of us.

Thanks for reading! Now go play a game of pinball!  I think I might too!  😀
